Research Interests
I am interested in the history of the neurosciences, especially the relationship between brain and behavior. In recent years I have been writing about the history of electric fishes (e.g., how they were used medically and ultimately showed that the nerves function electrically). I have also been exploring the histories of animal spirits, somnambulism, and phantoms sensations, as well as how discoveries in the brain sciences have been reflected in literature.
