Using experience sampling to study memory in the wild

Simon Dennis
Experience sampling technologies (e.g. smartphones and wearable sensors) allow us to capture people's ground truth as they engage in the activities of daily living. In this talk, I will
outline our work using these technologies to:

1. Mathematically characterize the episodic nature of experience using recurrence plots
2. Build models capable of predicting participants' judgments about the day on which an image from their lifelog was taken (using location, activity, auditory and visual data)
3. Locate brain regions that code the temporal and spatial aspects of recollective experience over long scales (weeks and kilometers).
